I originally thought this movie would be a great comedy. I mean, look at all the potential (at least for me). I'm a big fan of slapstick humor and the comedies of Ben Stiller/Will Ferrell/Adam Sandler today. I'm the least bit picky when it comes to comedy, but this movie seemed to miss more than it hit. Sure there were lots of funny parts and goofy characters. Lots of times the audience burst into laughing as classic Ben Stiller was shafted by one of the creatures/people coming to life each night. And the movie had Dick Van Dyke and Mickey Rooney. The overall idea of the movie was good too. I just think sometimes in it, they either tried too hard or didn't try enough. When Van Dyke and Rooney aren't providing the comedy, Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan are as they represent a diorama cowboy and a diorama Roman soldier respectively.
