Undemanding hokum from the "Sixth Sense/Unbreakable" stable. Does have some genuinely tense/scary moments, but the large plot holes and rather ridiculous scenarios reduce it's appeal considerably.
I loved this movie. It had humor and pathos. I was truly sitting on the edge of my seat for much of the film. I think that hardcore sci-fi fans were disappointed by the aliens and the resolution, but for me, it was right on. Very H.G. Wells. The despair of the father when his son was having an asthma attack was personal for me, having a son with asthma it was almost too hard to watch. I thought Mel Gibson did a fine job of portraying a man whose faith had floundered and who was trying to hold everything together. Perhaps the reason some dislike it, is that they didn't expect to be seeing a movie about faith, but more about creatures. Here the creatures were secondary.
