Often cited as "the goriest film of all time", Dead Alive (sometimes known as Braindead) is a zombie movie on steroids (literally). The film begins as a rare monkey is captured by poachers and is brought back to New Zealand to be held in a zoo. We learn early that the monkey is extremely dangerous and anyone that receives "the bite" is destined for death (or worse). We follow the protagonist Lionel (Timothy Balme) to the zoo, where his mother gets bit by the monkey. From there, the story develops as Lionel’s mother becomes progressively more sick and infects more people. After a large build up and plenty of bizarre zombie incidents, the film moves into its infamous finale - one that must be seen to be believed.
