Cleric John Preston (Bale) is a high ranking agent for the government who is in charge of killing those who break rules. He lives in a world of the future where the government has wiped out war by burying emotion. Art, music and books are forbidden and those who have feelings are committing crimes punishable by death. Preston quickly realizes the faults of this new governmental plan and realizes that he will be the only one capable of stopping it.
